NJTPA Seeks Comments on Draft TIP Amendments

The NJTPA is currently conducting the following public comment period.

Projects Funded by HIRE Act (Deadline July 16)
Pursuant to the federal transportation planning regulations, 23 CFR Part 450, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), Inc. is soliciting comments from citizens, public agencies, employee representatives, private providers of transportation, and other interested parties on a proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2010-2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Comments must be received by July 16, 2010.

The proposed amendments would add funding made available through the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act (HIRE), which was signed into law on March 18, 2010. This act made additional $97 million in federal transportation funds available to the state of New Jersey.  As a result of this act, unanticipated federal funds are available and can be used to implement some projects that otherwise would not have been able to advance.  These funds will be applied to projects as they become ready for authorization. The projects listed below were selected by NJDOT because of their ability to use the funds immediately. A TIP amendment is required to add projects to the TIP, and all TIP amendments are subject to public review and comment. The projects to be added are:

  • Route 31, Pavement Rehabilitation (Hunterdon County), $3 million
  • Route 46/CR 613, E. of School Rd, Resurfacing,  Essex and Morris Counties, $7.378 million
  • Route 22/CR 519, Belvidere Road, Intersection Improvement, Warren County, $2.173 million

These documents also are  available for review at the NJTPA, One Newark Center, 17th Floor, Newark, NJ 07102 and at New Jersey Library Network libraries in the NJTPA region, as well as other libraries designated by the NJTPA and its member agencies.  Comments may be submitted by mail to the above address or faxed to (973) 639-1953 (Attn: David Behrend) or e-mailed to dbehrend@njtpa.org.
