The Bayonne Bridge will remain closed until 5 a.m. Friday due to the extended high wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service, the Port Authority announced.
The bridge was originally scheduled to remain open to traffic until 7 p.m. and to close overnight for construction on the "Raise the Roadway" project.
Neal Buccino, a public information officer for the Port Authority, said several bolts fell from the steel scaffolding of the Bayonne Bridge onto the roadway during the high winds, prompting the bi-state agency to close traffic on the bridge.
The Goethals Bridge will remain open as an alternate route for drivers.
