Town of Boonton (Morris County) - Transit Village Initiative Planning
The Town of Boonton’s project will conduct planning studies necessary for designation as a Transit Village by NJDOT. The Town of Boonton proposes to establish a central transit zoning district as part of an overall transportation vision for the community. Zoning and other regulatory changes are proposed as part of the proposed effort. Significant community outreach and engagement is proposed for this study, including the creation of a Transportation Study Task Force, public charrette sessions, and on-line access to reports and information.
Borough of Freehold (Monmouth County)- Transit Village Initiative Planning
The Borough of Freehold’s project will be to conduct planning studies necessary for designation as a Transit Village by NJDOT. This effort will include the adoption of a transit-oriented development (TOD) zoning district, identify sites for TOD development, and improvements to pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The Borough of Freehold also proposed to update their site design, architectural and parking guidelines in accordance with the Transit Village Designation Criteria.
Green Brook Township (Somerset County) - Village Center Re-Zoning Project
Green Brook Township’s project will conduct a Village Center Re-Zoning Study of the township for suggested zoning amendments to the existing Township Village Commercial District in order to facilitate a successful development of a Village Center. The study will utilize connections to train and bus service. It will lead to the formation of zoning suggestions for a mixed-use Village Center with improved pedestrian, bicycle mobility, transit use and alleviating traffic congestion leading to a reduction in localized greenhouse gas emissions. The process will involve participation in visioning sessions that will be open to the public, as well as stakeholder groups such as municipal officials, residents and business and community leaders. The public will also be able to participate and share their thoughts and ideas for the Village Center via an online survey.
City of Hoboken (Hudson County) - Complete Streets Design and Implementation Plan
The City of Hoboken’s project is to develop a Complete Streets Design and Implementation Plan as part of an update to their five-year old Complete Streets Policy. This effort will include updating ordinances, revising development and construction policies by systematizing Complete Streets by ordinance, assimilating modern best practices, green infrastructure, technological elements and integrating Complete Streets into land use, property development and construction policies for future projects. The plan will increase accessibility to the roadway for all users, support balanced development and incorporate infrastructural elements for promoting flood mitigation, storm water management, and resiliency for climate change by strengthening Hoboken’s preparedness for future challenges in transportation and land use.
