Belmar Borough – Walkable Community Workshop

2025

This report identifies several recommendations to promote walking and bicycling as a means of travel and improve the pedestrian experience along a section of 8th Avenue, a municipal roadway located in the center of the Borough. The land use primarily consists of large, detached homes, some of which are summer rentals. While many residents rely on walking and bicycling for their day-to-day activities, Belmar attracts crowds during the summer months, many of whom arrive in a personal vehicle. As 8th Avenue connects to Route 35 on the western edge of town, the corridor experiences higher traffic volumes than parallel routes. Recommendations were developed through a Walkable Community Workshop, a collaborative effort with municipal employees and Borough stakeholders.
