The Vibrant Places Program is a collaboration with the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation at Rutgers University that supports municipalities, counties, and community organizations in the NJTPA region using placemaking strategies to provide technical assistance, information resources and workshops. Projects leverage the power of placemaking to strengthen connections between people and places, enhancing the social, physical, and economic fabric of communities across the region.

What is placemaking?

Placemaking integrates arts, culture, and other community assets to strengthen communities. It contributes to economic development by linking job creation to specific places by enhancing public spaces, streets, and other community amenities.

Technical Assistance

The Vibrant Places Program provides technical assistance for creative placemaking projects that support future place-based investment and complement local economic development efforts across the NJTPA region. Eligible projects include public art installations, story maps, and community vision plans. Applications are accepted annually.

Guidebooks and Education

The program also sponsors training workshops and focused guidebooks designed to enhance the capacity of counties, municipalities, nonprofits and others within the NJTPA region to advance the implementation of the region’s Long Range Transportation Plan.
