With a focus on improving and enhancing walking in northern and central New Jersey, the NJTPA conducted a series of half-day Walkable Community Workshops in communities around the region from 2010-2016. Workshop reports are available in the sidebar.

The workshops trained participants to identify barriers to walking and ways to improve pedestrian safety in each workshop community. Participants also learned how to inform and instruct residents, transportation professionals, and others about improving walkability. Workshop locations were selected by NJTPA staff in consultation with county and city officials throughout the region. Invited workshop participants included local elected officials, planners and engineers, business owners, and residents.

These workshops are now offered as part of our competitive Complete Streets Technical Assistance Program.
